I bought an 11 foot long drainage pipe from Wickes which I then cut into 4 different lengths.
The concept was to create a visual step from high to low.
With the help of my teen son, we dug four holes, each 1 foot deep.
We sunk a pipe into each hole and simple compacted with the soil that we dug out of the holes and finished off the surface with the pebbles in keeping with that area of the garden.
My choice of plants were a combination of trailing plants and upright ones to gain yet more height. Over watering would never be an issue as the natural draining at the base of the tubes created natural draining into the open earth underneath.
I aim to try different bedding plants in these tubes every summer for colour and interest.

If you are short of space then perhaps just 1 tube would still be effective in creating interest
